Operations Manager

Job Description – Operations Manager

In its simplest form, the role of operations would involve overseeing and designing business operations, improving efficiency, and, at a high level, ensuring that we are effective in meeting customer requirements.  At SciMed, however, we also hope that this person will take an active role in coordinating training, ensuring that standard operating procedures are followed, and continuing to push to make sure that great ideas come to fruition.  Specific work activities may include:

Realms of responsibility include but are not limited to:

  • People Operations
    • Recruitment and retention
    • HR support such as benefits management and onboarding
    • Policy and procedure management
    • Employee time entry review and assisting with payroll
  • Business Operations
    • Coordinate internal meetings
    • Standard operating procedures management
    • Security and audit review
    • Assist with project management (e.g. testing, scheduling, billing)
    • Inventing and gathering improvement ideas and metrics across the company
  • Employee Happiness/Engagement
    • Team building
    • Work space logistics
    • Engagement planning and metrics
  • Training and Learning
    • Coordinate employee training

The ideal candidate will be a graduate from a 4-year college or university who feels that he or she can become a uniquely valuable team member.  Employees should be able to take tasks/requests from start to finish without frequent supervision and actively identify where areas of improvement lie or where questionable assumptions are being made.  Previous work in Agile development and experience in operations management are preferred. The best applicants will bring additional disciplines to the team beyond computer science and software engineering.

Although this posting is for a defined role, responsibilities will not be fixed over time.  Working in a dynamic environment like SciMed allows employees to explore a broader set of skills and interests.  For instance, if employees have an interest and aptitude in managing client relationships, work in that area will be encouraged. Generally, SciMed is looking for strong candidates who feel comfortable jumping in and helping in many different areas, and who look forward to learn on the job to excel and overcome any challenges that arise.
